Rift

Rift is a new MMO coming out soon and I've been trying it out in the recent betas. The obvious pro is that it's actually a polished game. No stupid bugs (AoC), no extreme lack of finished content (WAR), etc. It feels like a finished game even in beta (although I am only level 12, I haven't seen anything "end game" yet). The UI is also extremely customizable which removes a lot of the need for third-party addons. The "rift" idea is also really cool, it's something you can get into even at lower levels. It takes on the feel of a party quest from WAR, something I always wished they'd implement in WoW, and yet it's even more dynamic than a PQ. They can open anywhere in the zone, with mini-packs of rift mobs patrolling the zone. You get loot and exp. from killing these packs and for closing rifts, so it's a nice break from the monotony of questing. I hope they get more involved at higher levels, though, as at level 12 it's mostly just button mashing.

There's other things I haven't gotten a chance to see like PvE dungeons or any type PvP, but I hear are pretty good as well. But, the major drawback for me is the cost... $50 for the game, $15 a month. I'm dwindling on funds as a college student, so I'm still not sure if I want to spend the money on it. Maybe if I had a job... but then I'd have to get a job.

Anyone have something to add about it that I don't know? Anyone else playing in the betas and/or thinking of buying it?

  3. Sorry if double post... Last one didn't submit...

Anyways, $15 isn't so bad better than what LoTRO cost when it first came out. Sounds pretty cool, good review.

  4. I have been enjoying it so far from the beta but yeah i'm not willing to pay 50 bucks a month on it if it ever drops in price or better yet becomes free to play i'd jump right back on.

  5. Subsription fees really make me evaluate the worth of an MMO, so I'm unlikely to play it for very long, unfortunately.

  6. Ive been enjoying RIFT BETA so far, have a level 11 Warrior Paladin/Champion/Warlord, it has so much potencial to rattle WoWs cage, that game needs some direct competition. It would set new standards in gameplay tbh.

    We'll see...

  7. I'd like to play a good MMO but I fear I would be spending 24h/per day on it.
